This contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation’s great history and learn about history in a new light. The contest is open to all students in grades 5-8.
Each academic year, a unique essay topic is chosen and guidelines are made available. Essays are judged for historical accuracy, adherence to topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation and neatness. Additional rules and guidelines can be found by contacting your local DAR chapter. A winner will be selected from each of the four grades to advance to the state level. The state winner from each grade will advance to the divisional level. The divisional winners will advance to the national level where the winners are announced. All National winners will receive a certificate, medal and a monetary reward.

Grandparents’ Day Celebration on Friday, September 11, 2015. Grandparents will gather in the cafeteria for a short presentation at 1:45 pm and then will be released to visit their grandchildren’s classrooms at 2:10 pm. Visitation will continue until 3:00 pm. At that time students will be dismissed to the high school pep rally. Grandparents are invited to join us at the pep rally that day. Students who will be leaving school with grandparents must bring a note from parents to let us know that they will be dismissed with their grandparent(s). We hope to see you there!

Lovelady Junior High parents this is a reminder regarding STAAR testing the week of April 20-22. On Monday, April 20th our eighth graders will be taking the Math STAAR assessment. On Tuesday, April 21st our 7th graders will be taking the Math STAAR and 8th graders will be taking the Social Studies STAAR assessments. On Wednesday, April 22nd our 7th graders will be taking the Reading STAAR and 8th graders will be taking the Science STAAR assessments. Please help ensure your child is well rested. Since our testing begins during first period, we have asked students to be sure they eat breakfast before school either in the school cafeteria or at home.
