DAR Essay Contest

September 25, 2015

This contest was established to encourage young people to think creatively about our nation’s great history and learn about history in a new light. The contest is open to all students in grades 5-8.

Each academic year, a unique essay topic is chosen and guidelines are made available. Essays are judged for historical accuracy, adherence to topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation and neatness. Additional rules and guidelines can be found by contacting your local DAR chapter. A winner will be selected from each of the four grades to advance to the state level. The state winner from each grade will advance to the divisional level. The divisional winners will advance to the national level where the winners are announced. All National winners will receive a certificate, medal and a monetary reward.

ATTENDANCE WARNING/ISSUE

May 21, 2015
ATTENDANCE WARNING/ISSUE!!!

We had a JH/HS school meeting with all students this morning and explained state attendance laws. If a student does not qualify for flex days they are required to be here next week. If the students misses these required days and student drops below 90% attendance they will not be given credit for the course/ grade as per TEA rules.

Seniors who go over 8 days in this final semester will not receive course credit and if it is a required course to graduate, will NOT walk at Graduation.

Parents at both the ELEMENATARY and JH/HS please insure your children are in attendance if they are required to be here because if they fail to meet the required 90% attendance rule they will not receive credit until after an attendance committee hearing in June and/or making up days in summer school.

JH/ HS Students in danger still have the option of making up attendance recovery in the after school program today 5/21, Tuesday 5/26, and Wednesday 5/27.

Once again we are required by law to require students to be here 90% of the time to issue credit.

PLEASE REFERENCE LISD POLICY BELOW SIGHTING STATE LAW
