HONORARY VETERAN'S DIPLOMA
Lovelady ISD will award belated high school diplomas to war veterans who have served in the armed forces without finishing high school.
Veterans who are eligible have served in World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Iraq War, War in Afghanistan or any other formally declared war by the U.S.
LISD will award diplomas in a special veterans graduation ceremony as part of the district’s Veterans Day observance.
To participate in the ceremony, a completed application form must be returned with a copy of the veteran’s discharge notification (DD Form 214) by Oct. 10. Otherwise, applications can be returned any time and eligible veterans will receive their diploma in the mail.
Beginning in 2005, the Texas Legislature expanded the diploma program to include any veteran who:
•Is an honorably discharged member of the armed forces of the U.S.;
•Was scheduled to graduate from high school after 1940 and before 1975, or after 1989; and
•Left school after completing sixth grade or higher, but before graduating from high school, to serve in any formally declared war by the United States Congress, military engagement authorized by a United Nations Security Council resolution and funded by the U.S. Congress, or conflict authorized by the president of the U.S. under the War Powers Resolution of 1973 (50 United States Code ~1541 et. seq.)
