Superintendent Update

LISD Parents & Guardians,

Today May 22nd is officially our last day of the 2019-2020 school year.  We would like to thank you for your patience and continued support as we’ve navigated our way through these difficult times.  Our decisions have been and will continue to be based on guidance from our state and local officials.

I understand you may have many questions about returning to school in the fall.  I will continue to keep you updated throughout the summer via our messaging system and website.  Much discussion is occurring across the state regarding school calendars for next year.  We adopted a school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year prior to this Pandemic.  Unless further guidance from the Texas Education Agency mandates changes to school calendars for next year, we will continue to follow the calendar approved by our board.  A copy of our 2020-2021 school calendar can be found on our website at loveladyisd.net.

We are remaining optimistic about our return in August.  The Texas Education Agency recently released regulations to allow for summer school for specific situations.  Therefore, we are already planning and purchasing the equipment necessary to meet those guidelines for allowing students in our facilities.  In the event these guidelines are still in place, we will be ready.

UIL released very detailed plans today for allowing summer strength and conditioning workouts and sports specific instruction beginning June 8th.  I have included the information below released by UIL.   While this is great news, it will require extensive planning to implement the safety measures.  We will be taking the guidelines very seriously to keep our kids and coaches safe.  Next week we will begin contacting students in order to develop a schedule, creating workout plans that will meet the regulations, and purchasing any necessary protective equipment.  We look forward to having students back on campus but at the same time want to continue to keep everyone safe.  (See UIL release below)

We wish everyone a happy and healthy summer!!  Thank you again for everything you have done throughout this process.  We are very fortunate to live in a community with such great parents and kids!!

UIL Release- May 22, 2020

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) requirements and guidelines for its member schools to begin limited UIL summer strength and conditioning and marching band practice starting June 8, 2020 are now available on the UIL website. As restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic begin to be lifted across the state of Texas we are cautiously optimistic about beginning these summer activities in a thoughtful and deliberate manner.

It is imperative that schools follow this guidance carefully and develop a detailed plan for implementing the safety measures listed prior to beginning these activities. Texas is counting on our educational leaders to be thoughtful in resuming these activities.

The guidance includes information for considering whether to begin these activities on June 8th in each district. Please work with local officials in advance to ensure that all local guidelines are met. It is important to note that UIL cannot anticipate every unique situation and schools should stay informed and take additional actions based on common sense and good judgment that will protect the health of students and communities.

In addition to these guidelines, schools are required to follow guidance from TEA related to athletics activities and music activities on school campuses.
